Finding pet care could become easier with these solutions

Pet owners face a potentially big problem as the veterinary field deals with a growing shortage of veterinarians.

Researchers at Mars Vet Health claim a boom in pet adoptions, especially during the COVID pandemic, and the retirement of approximately 2,000 veterinarians each year have combined to create that shortage.

They now estimate that nearly 41,000 additional veterinarians will be needed by 2030 to meet the growing demand.

Currently, some pet owners said they were already seeing delays in getting appointments with some practices booked weeks and months in advance.

Cat spay/neuter clinic to take place March 11, 12

Mar. 2—Pet Friendly Services of Indiana is partnering with Public Vet to provide financial assistance to individuals wishing to spay/neuter their cats.

The clinics will begin at 8:30 am March 11 and 12 at the Community Building at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds. Individuals with cats in Vigo County and the surrounding areas are welcome, the organization said in a release.

Each procedure is $90 and takes about an hour to complete. With support from Pet Friendly Services, Project HOPE and the Terre Haute Humane Society, additional discounts are available for those who demonstrate financial need.

TEXARKANA, Ark. – Animal advocates are offering low-cost spay and neuter clinics to help combat the overpopulation of pets in the Texarkana area.

Last year, the Arkansas side of the city passed an ordinance requiring pets to be spayed or neutered. The spay and neuter clinic not only helps prevent unwanted litters, or pets that get dumped and left behind, but animal advocates say it also improves or promotes the animal’s health.

Friends Furrever, a local animal rescue group, is sponsoring the clinic at the Texarkana shelter.
