Metro Phoenix program works to keep pets with owners experiencing homelessness

When Mike Grimler lost his home, he knew a lot was about to change.

But when it came to his two dogs, Peanut and Maggie May, there was no way he’d continue without them, he said.

The dogs had been with Grimler since they were puppies, he said, and when Grimler’s fiancée got sick toward the end of last year, he promised her that he would keep them safe.

For Grimler and many other people experiencing homelessness in metro Phoenix, having animals can be a barrier to finding emergency housing. Few shelters in the Valley can accommodate pets. That’s why

It turns out, however, that there are downsides to letting your pet sleep in your bed. Every animal is different, of

He said everyone should keep in mind the scanner only works if your pet is chipped.

“If they have a chip in them it quickly allows us to identify an owner as opposed to before where we have to transport them to a

Mayo Clinic to lead a new radiotracer trial for detecting pancreatic cancer

Newswise — ROCHESTER, Minn. — In an academic-industrial collaboration, the Mayo Clinic is assessing in a clinical trial a new radiotracer in pancreatic cancer imaging.

As part of the investigation, the new agent, 68Ga-Fibroblast-Activation-Protein-Inhibitors (FAPI)-46 (68Ga-FAPI-46), will be compared with 18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), which is the current standard-of-care radiotracer, in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of pancreatic cancer.

“The research will focus on pancreatic cancer and evaluate whether this radiotracer does what it’s supposed to do, and whether it provides incremental information above and beyond the standard of care,” says Ajit Goenka, MD, principal investigator and a Mayo Clinic

The Scorpion that lives in England

Scorpions, tough Chelicerata arachnids, well known for their association with the one of the most hostile, hottest environments on earth…deserts. But even when not living in deserts, scorpions still tend to be found in warm ecosystems, such as rainforests and savannas. However, believe it or not, there is a scorpion that braces the rather unpleasant British weather.

The European yellow-tailed scorpion (Euscorpius flavicaudis), is a small black scorpion with yellow-brown legs, that is widely distributed across Europe (especially in the south), as well as Northern parts of Africa (Cloudsley-Thompson and Constantinou, 1983). As an adult, they reach sizes

Assassin bugs, worthy of the name (Part 1)

The world is full of charismatic predators; big cats, wolves and crocodiles, which are commonly the focus of TV shows and documentaries, but some of the most interesting and successful predators are often overlooked. As far as numbers go, the predatory beetles are the most successful terrestrial predators, but we’ll forget that for a moment as they are not the focus of this post. Instead, we will be looking at the fascinating variety and ingenuity of the hugely successful predatory Hemipteran group: Reduviidae.

The bugs belonging to the Hemipteran family Reduviidae are commonly known as assassin bugs and this is
